I have been chided by my family concerning QVC. QVC is a television and internet shopping program that run 24-7. I found it many years ago while mindlessly changing channels. I would semi-watch and listen to it while doing chores about the house. Eventually it became a companion to me as I sat at my computer researching genealogy. Having a low non-discript noise about me as I worked kind of soothed my soul.
A PEEKED INTEREST…
Slowly I began to get interested in their programing and the way in which the program hosts presented products. I found it quite interesting and entertaining. I was never a soap opera person and daytime talk shows turned me off completely. There is just so much “news” you want to hear, especially over and over again. So I became entralled in this new media of consumer shopping. How would this play with the general public? My interest now was totally peeked.
Shopping on television just seemed illogical to me. After all, I could not handle the merchandise, feel its quality or try it on for a fit. As I saw the low key selling techniques and the amiable hosts discriptive abilities I began to realize this shopping experience could really catch on…and it has- like gang busters!
FILLING A NEED….
I know there still remains many american towns that have no shopping malls. How far do these people have to travel to purchase the necessities and luxuries of life? What about the disabled and those confined at home who rarely get to shop? I realized..”Hey, wait a minute, this can actually fill a consumer need and create a niche for itself- big time!
True confession time.. I can not remember the last time I went to the local mall. First of all, I’d struggle walking- good for exercise but bad on sore inflamed joints and knees!Secondly, when have I gone to a local store and found a hugh variety of choices in clothing for us big beautiful women? And when was the last time I really got service at these places? Don’t you think our local malls cater more to the taste and sizes of our young daughters than they do to the more mature lady? And prices… what has happened to the price of an item? Take my arm and my leg…pleease!
Maybe I have reached the age that it seems totally senseless to waste the gas! Gasoline is golden these days. Perhaps I enjoy shopping in my jammies. Maybe I like having packages delivered to my door. Geez…the UPS person and I are now are on a first name basis, for pete sakes.
ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY…
QVC sells everything within the legal limits. All seasons are represented and all types of merchandise are presented for consumer approval. Program hosts are personable, clean and well versed in product knowledge. And if they aren’t- then usually experts are invited to paticipate. Viewers have come to know the hosts families as their own. Viewers are invited to phone in to converse with the program hosts on a continuing basis. Testimonials are given… for petes sake…it one big happy family thing!!
Entertainers have caught the QVC bug. I have seem Alabama, Paula Abdul, Neil Sedaka and Tony Bennett hack their CDs. Sport figures from racing, baseball and basketball pitch their own line of products. Suzie Orman, the financial guru, grew very famous and rich selling her legal line on QVC. Marie Osmond displays her doll collections for a price and Jean Bice, a figure after my own heart, no longer supplies for expensive boutiques but comes to QVC ands she is adorned by millions who have fallen in love with her positive philosophy and sparkle and shine clothing. They have vendor cruises available to the general public, for a price, to mingle with the celebrities and have fun- fun- fun.
SEEING IT ALL!!
You know folks, there have been times I have felt I have seen everything. As far as consumer shopping networks are concerned, QVC is the best. There have cropped up many copy-cat programs but QVC has burned the network for 20 years now and still gaining in popularity. If it were possible I would have bought stock in this company years ago…today I would be in fat city and not have to worry about paying their bill!!
